July

Botswana

July is an exceptional month to visit Botswana. It marks the peak season for wildlife viewing in the country’s iconic parks, including the Okavango Delta, Linyanti, and Chobe. Families can marvel at the grandeur of large elephant herds, the elusive wild dog, and vibrant red lechwe. In the Okavango Delta, the waterways are fully flooded, creating the perfect conditions for a serene mokoro safari through its peaceful, lily-covered channels. For those seeking adventure, July offers the chance to meet cheeky meerkats, experience thrilling quad-biking across the vast Makgadikgadi Pans, and track the remarkable desert lions of the Kalahari. It’s a month filled with unforgettable experiences children love.

Zambia

All camps are open after the rainy season, and game viewing opportunities are at their peak, making it an excellent time for families to embark on walking safaris. Comfortable daytime temperatures, clear sunny skies, and minimal rainfall create ideal conditions for outdoor adventures. As the peak dry season sets in, the landscape dries out, allowing for easier wildlife spotting as animals gather around shrinking water sources. While the water levels at Victoria Falls are low, resulting in a less impressive flow, they are now suitable for thrilling white-water rafting trips and visits to the Devil’s Pool. The Lower Zambezi offers excellent fishing opportunities from May to November if you have any keen fisherman in the family!

Kenya

Kenya is a destination that feels magical no matter the weather, but if we had to choose the best month to visit, July would certainly be at the top of the list. During this time, the country boasts brilliant blue skies, abundant sunshine, and exceptional game viewing. While popular parks like the Masai Mara can become crowded, consider heading north for a more peaceful experience but with exhilarating activities especially older children and teenagers will love. You can track rhinos or embark on a camel safari in Samburu, explore the landscapes on horseback in Laikipia, or take a walking safari in Lewa Downs, where you can get involved with groundbreaking conservation initiatives.

Namibia

One of the best months for a self drive adventure. Temperatures begin to rise, but dry conditions create low humidity and comfortable travel experiences. Morning and evening temperatures remain cool and wildlife in Etosha becomes increasingly concentrated around water sources, providing fantastic opportunities for animal spotting!
