Zambia

Safari

Zambia is renowned for its authentic safari experiences, making it a great choice for families with older children or teens looking to explore the African wilderness. Zambia is particularly famous for its walking safaris in South Luangwa national park, where experienced guides lead families on foot through the bush, offering a unique and immersive way to observe wildlife and learn about the ecosystem. The absence of crowds and the emphasis on sustainable tourism ensure a more intimate and personalized safari experience.

Active Adventures

The mighty Zambezi River is a hotspot for water-based activities, including white-water rafting, canoeing, and fishing. The iconic Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, provides opportunities for adrenaline-pumping activities such as bungee jumping, gorge swinging, and zip-lining. For those who prefer more relaxed adventures, scenic boat cruises along the river offer stunning views of the falls and the surrounding landscapes.

Conservation Experiences

Zambia’s commitment to wildlife conservation provides families with meaningful opportunities to learn about and contribute to conservation efforts. Many lodges and safari operators are actively involved in conservation projects, offering educational programs and activities for children and adults alike. Families can participate in anti-poaching patrols, assist with wildlife monitoring, or visit rehabilitation centers for injured and orphaned animals. The chance to engage in hands-on conservation work not only enhances the safari experience but also fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation for the importance of protecting Zambia’s natural heritage.

Best time to visit:

April to October

Why:

The wet months (January to March) are not ideal because some areas become inaccessible. The wildlife viewings are better in the dry season, and the water level is the highest in the delta, which is great for Mokoro (canoe) trips!
