June

Tanzania (Grumeti Reserve)

June offers a chance to witness one of nature’s most thrilling spectacles: the wildebeest crossing the Grumeti River as part of the Great Migration. This dramatic event, which draws many safari-goers, is especially exclusive in the private Grumeti Reserve, where fewer vehicles and people create a more intimate experience.

Uganda and Rwanda

June marks the start of the dry season, making it an ideal time for a gorilla trekking adventure in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park or Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. With drier trails, the trek is more manageable and enjoyable. In Uganda, Kibale Forest National Park, known for its high concentration of chimpanzees, is also entering its peak season. While June brings more visitors, it’s still quieter than the busier months of July and August, allowing families to enjoy more intimate trekking and safari experiences.

Kenya

June is the beginning of the migration season in the Maasai Mara, with herds of wildebeest and zebras starting to cross into Kenya. It’s an excellent time for family safaris, offering thrilling wildlife encounters and the chance to witness the great migration in action. If you are looking to combine safari with beach, June marks the beginning of the dry season on the Kenyan coast (Diani Beach, Malindi, Watamu and Lamu Island), offering beautiful sunny weather with only the occasional rain shower.
