Namibia

Namibia is one of our favourite places for a self-drive family adventure – wild, vast and staggeringly beautiful, with a great sense of safety and freedom. From epic safaris in Etosha, where animals gather around waterholes in the dry season, to tracking desert-adapted elephants through the rugged hills of Damaraland, the wildlife experiences are truly unforgettable.

For adventurous families, there’s so much to dive into – hike the edge of the Fish River Canyon, climb and race down the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei, or kayak with seals along the Atlantic coast. Namibia is also a leader in conservation, and there are plenty of ways to get involved – whether it’s visiting a cheetah sanctuary or helping track endangered rhinos. And for a cultural experience that really stays with you, spend time with the Himba or San communities and learn about their traditions and way of life.

Best Time to visit:

Dry Season (May to October)

Why:

Days are warm with cooler nights, making it comfortable for outdoor activities and exploring the desert. This period is also ideal for wildlife viewing in Etosha national park, as all the animals congregate around the waterholes.
