Northern Cape
The Northern Cape is the province to the north of the Western Cape, which borders Namibia. The northern part of the Northern Cape is dominated by the Kalahari Desert, a vast expanse of red sand dunes, thornveld, and arid plains. It is known for its striking red sands and sparse vegetation, home to unique desert-adapted flora and fauna.
The mighty Orange River flows through the western part of the province. It is a lifeline for the region and supports agriculture and water-based activities. The culture and people of the Northern Cape reflect the province’s history and traditions: The San people, also known as Bushmen or Basarwa, are believed to be one of the oldest indigenous groups in the world and have a significant presence in the Northern Cape. They have a rich cultural heritage, known for their rock art, hunting and gathering skills, and a deep connection to the land.
The Northern Cape offers a great trip for those who seek unique landscapes, experience the kalhari, fun on the orange river and those driving from Cape Town to Windhoek have the pleasure of passing through this province.
